Fall and winter are my favorite times of the year for lip colors. I love bringing out my vampy darker colors because I love lipstick that’s as dark as my soul. Kidding…kind of, but those darker colors always find themselves working their way into my look during the colder months. I’m also a fan of mauves and pinks for this time of year as well. So here is my list of my top ten lip colors for the fall and winter- all from the drugstore!

Here are my five darkest shades:

(L to R) Milani- Black Cherry. Covergirl-Jam. Wet n Wild-Cinnamon Spice. Rimmel-10. Rimmel-6.

Milani-Black Cherry: My darkest shade. It is my absolutely favorite for this time of year. It's the perfect vampy, red for those that want those deep berry lips during the colder months. The formula is really smooth and comfortable to wear and it's really moisturizing.

Covergirl Jumbo Lip Balm-Jam: This is my go-to shade. It's almost like a more sheered out version of the Milani Black Cherry but with more purple tones. This color is a lot easier to wear so it's perfect for those who want to try those darker colors but don't want jump right into those dark shades. The CG Jumbo Balms are really moisturizing and lip crayons are perfect to just throw in your bag.

Wet N Wild-Cinnamon Spice: These matte lipsticks by Wet N Wild are surprising easy to wear. It's a good formula for a cheaper price. The color is a more brown toned, red shade and I'm obsessed with it. I find that these don't feather on me and that's something I love in a matte lipstick. I love a good matte lipstick in the fall and winter.

Rimmel London-10: The new Kate Moss collection of Rimmel London is absolutely amazing. This is my favorite red lipstick that I have in my collection. It's the perfect red and it goes on really smooth. These wear like a dream.

Rimmel London-6: Pink lipstick is a favorite of mine. This color is a really nice hot pink shade that's really easy to wear. It's the perfect pop of color when you want a change from your typical reds. Like the one above it, it has a smooth formula and the color payoff is really nice. Definitely get your hands on a few of these Rimmel lipsticks.

Here are my five lighter shades:

(L to R) Wet n Wild- Think Pink. Covergirl- #LuvU. Maybelline- Pin Up Peach. Nyx-Apple Strudel. Almay- Blooming.

Wet N Wild- Think Pink: Another matte lipstick. Think Pink is the perfect baby pink shade. I find that the lighter shades of the Wet n Wild matte lipsticks feather more that the darker shades-the darker ones don't feather at all. But, it's still a really nice color. I swipe it on and then smooth it out with my finger and top it with a gloss and I'm out the door. It matches really nicely with the Almay gloss I'm going to talk about.

Covergirl Smoochies-#LuvU: These Covergirl Smoochies give me so much life. I'm absolutely obsessed with them, I ran out and bought two more after I bought this shade. #LuvU is a nice, sheer mauve color, perfect for fall and winter. The formula is really smooth and moisturizing, perfect for everyday wear, especially when your winter-chapped lips need a little extra moisture.

Maybelline Color Whisper- Pin Up Peach: These Color Whispers are definitely worth the hype. I ran out and picked this one up and it's amazing. It's really moisturizing and smooth, it feels amazing on the lips. I'm a big fan of this peachy color. It's a great, sheer wash of color that brings life to your lips. It's shiny but doesn't make lips look greasy.

Nyx Butter Gloss- Apple Strudel: I'm completely obsessed with these butter glosses! The formula is like a dream and they smell absolutely delicious. The color payoff is really great, they're extremely pigmented. I need more colors like..now.

Almay Liquid Lip Balm- Blooming: I really like these Liquid Lip Balms. They go on really smooth and moisturize the lips like a lip balm would. They're really pigmented and the formula is like a dream. This baby pink color is perfect for a nice wash of color on the lips, great to pair with a smokey eye.

Honorable mention:

Nivea Lip Butter; Vanilla & Macadamia Nut: These lip butters completely saved my life during these cold months. They're super moisturizing and leave lips feeling really soft. This is my favorite scent, the nutty vanilla scent is amazing, it smells so tasty.  I don't know what I would do without this.

What are some of your favorites for this time of year?

1.  New York City

This is the perfect place for a crazed fashion-obsessed journalist like me. My ultimate goal is to move here after graduation and attend the Fashion Institute of Technology and work my way up to becoming an editor of a magazine....and maybe star in a few Broadway productions but that's another story. New York Fashion Week, here I come.

2. Los Angeles

California, other than their frequent earthquakes, it's a place I've always wanted to live. My love for acting and anything celebrity or pop culture may have a little to do with it as well. I mean, I was voted "Most Likely to Be on the Cast of Glee."

3. Atlanta

It's like the hair capitol of America, um, hello!

4. London.

I couldn't see myself living here for too long, but the thought of traveling to the UK has been a dream of mine for years. Plus, it would be nice to finally get to see my UK friends. Also, the Potterhead in me is dying to visit Platform 9  1/3. All aboard the Hogwarts Express!

5. Paris.

Other than the city being absolutely beautiful I would love to get a chance to be among the rich, French culture and see the fashion opportunities that Paris has to offer. It seems like the perfect place to inspire anyone and a little inspiration never hurt anyone.

The Beauty Vault
One beauty guru that I was completely obsessed with in 2013 was Irina, a makeup artist from Vancouver who runs the YouTube channel The Beauty Vault. Irina is a professional makeup artist with a background in marketing and product development. Irina has been a makeup addict since the age of five when she went through her mother’s makeup collection (make sure to check out the picture on her blog- it’s absolutely adorable). She’s been in the business for about five years doing freelance, retail and cooperate levels. Her obsession with makeup and The Walking Dead is what drew me to her channel and I never looked back.
I love Irina’s channel because she always has very creative makeup tutorials and I love her personality. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve recreated one of her looks because I fell in love with it. I love when she posts videos of her favorite products because she will only post a favorite’s video when she really loves something so I enjoy it so much more because I know it must be good. She does a lot of drugstore tutorials which is great for my wallet. Her personality is awesome because it brings something extra to her videos. She’s a zombie obsessed makeup love like me so she quickly became one of my favorite beauty gurus on YouTube. If you haven’t checked her out, you need to change that immediately.
Here’s her latest tutorial:
