Did you really think I would celebrate Women in Horror Month and not use it as an excuse to get a little bloody?

If you’re like me then your Valentine’s Day isn’t spent watching romantic comedies while surrounded by flowers, chocolates and gifts from your sweetheart. No, my Valentine’s Day is less Something Borrowed and more My Bloody Valentine.

This year, I decided to do another Anti-Valentine’s Day look. Now that I have the Modern Renaissance palette in my collection, there’s no way I could pass up the opportunity to slather the shade “Love Letter” all over my eyes – which is exactly what I did.

For the horror element, what better way to say “Be My Valentine” than carving “Be Mine” into their chest?

As I’ve mentioned before on my blog, I love The Exorcist and possession films in general. So, what better way to celebrate Blogtoberfest than to do a demon inspired makeup look?

I was inspired by this look by makeup artist, Erika Marie, to create this glam demon tutorial. If you're not familiar with her I highly suggest you check out her Instagram. She's crazy talented and has so many incredible looks on her page. I used a small number of products to complete this look that can be found pretty much anywhere (especially during the month of October) and it can be paired with literally anything. Party or event coming up and you don’t have a costume? Throw on something cute and slap on some blood and you’ve got yourself a costume.

For starters, you’ll need:

Black pencil liner

Black liquid liner

Dark red eyeshadow

Black eyeshadow

Coagulated blood gel

Stipple Sponge

Red lipstick

Now for the steps:

First- Start by creating a smoky eye. Start with a neutral transition shade in the crease, then continue by adding a darker shade in the outer v, building the darkness as you go. Lay down a layer of black liner onto the lid and then set it with a black shadow for a bolder look. Finish with winged liner (if you prefer).

Next- Take your dark red shadow and deepen up your crease. Blend the shadow into the inner corner, as if you’re contouring your nose. The key is to keep building the color until you achieve a sunken-in effect. We’re trying to look as dead as possible. The exact shade I used was my ride or die shadow in “Fresh Scab” from My Pretty Zombie. It’s the perfect deep red with purple undertones.

Next- Work on the lower lash line. Use a small pencil brush and the black eyeshadow to darken up the lower lash line, then blend it out with your red shade. You’ll want to bring the color down further to get ready for the “tears.” Next – alternate between dragging your black liner down your cheek and blending with your finger to smudge it out. Kind of like mascara tears. Bring some of the red onto the cheek as well because we’ll be blending in some blood later.

Next- For the lips, apply your red lipstick in the center of your lips and blend outward with your finger. The effect you want is similar to that “I just ate a cherry popsicle” look. Then – take your red lipstick and map out the “cuts” on each side of your mouth like a Chelsea Grin. These don’t have to be perfect because we’re going to cover it with blood soon.

Next- Use your black liner and sketch out the cross on your forehead. Again – it doesn’t have to be perfect because we’re covering it with blood.

Finally- The fun part. Using a small pallet knife (or q-tip), scrap out some of the coagulate blood and apply it to where you laid out your cross and your scars near your mouth. The coagulated blood is perfect because it’s dark, wet-looking, and stays in place. So, if you’re going somewhere, you don’t have to worry about it sliding all over the place. Build up the blood till you reach your desired look. 

Next – use your stipple sponge and go over the coagulated blood to make it appear chunky and scabby by simply pressing it into the product. Add a few drips of stage blood to amp up the aesthetics.

And you’re finished. This honestly took me about 15 minutes. All of the products I used will be listed below if you want to pick up the exact items. Most were under $15.

So I recently turned 24 on January 7^th. I may have been snowed in thanks to the snowstorm that came through NC but that didn’t stop me from sitting around with dramatic eye makeup as I sat and watched movies and read comic books.

So I bring you two makeup looks: one simple and one dramatic. I mainly used the same products for both looks and just tweaked minor details to create a bolder, more in-your face look. I've been really into red shadow (more than I usually am), and I've been obsessed with playing around with my Kylie Burgundy Pallet since I got it for Christmas. The matte shades are fantastic, but the shimmers need a little extra work to show up. They're still really pretty once you build up the pigmentation.
