As I’ve mentioned before on my blog, I love The Exorcist and possession films in general. So, what better way to celebrate Blogtoberfest than to do a demon inspired makeup look?

I was inspired by this look by makeup artist, Erika Marie, to create this glam demon tutorial. If you're not familiar with her I highly suggest you check out her Instagram. She's crazy talented and has so many incredible looks on her page. I used a small number of products to complete this look that can be found pretty much anywhere (especially during the month of October) and it can be paired with literally anything. Party or event coming up and you don’t have a costume? Throw on something cute and slap on some blood and you’ve got yourself a costume.

For starters, you’ll need:
Black pencil liner
Black liquid liner
Dark red eyeshadow
Black eyeshadow
Coagulated blood gel
Stipple Sponge
Red lipstick

Now for the steps:

First- Start by creating a smoky eye. Start with a neutral transition shade in the crease, then continue by adding a darker shade in the outer v, building the darkness as you go. Lay down a layer of black liner onto the lid and then set it with a black shadow for a bolder look. Finish with winged liner (if you prefer).

Next- Take your dark red shadow and deepen up your crease. Blend the shadow into the inner corner, as if you’re contouring your nose. The key is to keep building the color until you achieve a sunken-in effect. We’re trying to look as dead as possible. The exact shade I used was my ride or die shadow in “Fresh Scab” from My Pretty Zombie. It’s the perfect deep red with purple undertones.

Next- Work on the lower lash line. Use a small pencil brush and the black eyeshadow to darken up the lower lash line, then blend it out with your red shade. You’ll want to bring the color down further to get ready for the “tears.” Next – alternate between dragging your black liner down your cheek and blending with your finger to smudge it out. Kind of like mascara tears. Bring some of the red onto the cheek as well because we’ll be blending in some blood later.

Next- For the lips, apply your red lipstick in the center of your lips and blend outward with your finger. The effect you want is similar to that “I just ate a cherry popsicle” look. Then – take your red lipstick and map out the “cuts” on each side of your mouth like a Chelsea Grin. These don’t have to be perfect because we’re going to cover it with blood soon.

Next- Use your black liner and sketch out the cross on your forehead. Again – it doesn’t have to be perfect because we’re covering it with blood.

Finally- The fun part. Using a small pallet knife (or q-tip), scrap out some of the coagulate blood and apply it to where you laid out your cross and your scars near your mouth. The coagulated blood is perfect because it’s dark, wet-looking, and stays in place. So, if you’re going somewhere, you don’t have to worry about it sliding all over the place. Build up the blood till you reach your desired look.

Next – use your stipple sponge and go over the coagulated blood to make it appear chunky and scabby by simply pressing it into the product. Add a few drips of stage blood to amp up the aesthetics.

And you’re finished. This honestly took me about 15 minutes. All of the products I used will be listed below if you want to pick up the exact items. Most were under $15.

Products used:
Elf Liquid Liner
Elf Brow Cream
Jordana Tinted Brow Gel
MPZ shadow in “Fresh Scab”
KVD Shade and Eye Pallete (You obviously don’t have to use this. Use any black and grey shadows you have for the smoky eye)
Wet N Wild Khol Liner
Hard Candy Lashoholic Mascara
Wet N Wild Megalash lipstick in “Cherry Bomb”
Mehron Coagulated Blood
Mehron Stage Blood
Stipple Sponge from Party City.

Hello boils and ghouls

So as most of you know, I’m a huge fan of special fx makeup and whenever there’s an excuse for me to use it I take advantage of that. Ice Nine Kills is currently on their “Hell in the Hallways” tour alongside Secrets, Sylar, Cover Your Tracks, and Out Came the Wolves and I get the honor of helping promote their NC date.

Their latest album Every Trick in the Book features songs that were inspired by some of their favorite novels and the track “Hell in the Hallways” was inspired by Stephen King’s Carrie – a personal favorite of mine. I took this opportunity to put together a sort of “undead prom queen” look, instead of just covering myself in blood like my homegirl Carrie White (even though it’s so much fun).

For this look here’s what you’ll need:
Tissue Paper
Cream Paints
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Liquid Latex
And of course, Blood.

First- Do your makeup like you normally would for a night out. I did a simple smoky eye, incorporating darker colors to create a sunken-in look. Apply some lipstick and then smudge it, dragging it down the side of your mouth. Remember, we’re dead – we don’t really care if our lips are perfectly lined.

Next, create some bruises and trauma around your face and neck. Depending on the type of bruises you want/undertones, use colors that compliment that. I used reds, purples, and bit of yellow. I mixed the colors on my hand and then used a makeup sponge to dab it on my skin, using different variations of shades to create different depths.

Next- Decide where you want your scars or gashes and outline the spot with a lip liner or eyeliner. Then, grab your liquid latex and apply a thin layer with a sponge. Take your tissue and place it on top of the latex and then apply another layer of latex on top to further seal it. Repeat these steps until you get your desired thickness and shape. Take a pair of tweezers or a pallet knife to cut open the tissue to create your gash CAREFULLY. It seems simple enough but you don’t want to accidentally pull or cut your skin.

Now unless your latex is flesh colored you might need to take a foundation and apply it on top so the wound matches your skin. Before you do this, wait for the latex to dry and then powder it using a translucent powder or even baby powder. Sometimes it helps to take an eyeshadow close to your skin color and powder it around the edges.

Take a black or dark red shade and apply it inside the cut to create depth. Next, take various shades of reds and purples and stipple it around the edges of the cut to make it appear to be irritated.

Final step – blood. For this, you can use whatever kind of blood your heart desires. Depending on the look you want to achieve you could use Ben Nye’s Fresh Scab blood (thick, chunky, and appears wet), Coagulated blood gel (thick, appears wet, drips a bit but not a lot), Blood paste (thick, stays in place), or standard stage blood (thin, drips, great for splattering blood). For this particular look I used stage blood.

Apply any finishing touches you want and then you’re done!

I have a few more Halloween looks planned so stay tuned.

Happy Halloween, boils and ghouls!

Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday, make sure you eat lots of candy and watch a lot of scary movies. At least, that's what I'll be doing.
In honor of my favorite day of the year, I created this clown look inspired by my old pal Twisty the clown (American Horror Story fans stand up!)

This was all things I had in my collection already.
The white, black and red face paint were cream products that I bought from Party City a couple years back.

Process:
Apply a white base around the face, not going too close to the edge to create a mask-like appearance.
Build up to desired intensity and then set with a powder (baby powder works).
Use black eye shadow and using a brush (or whatever you have handy) create the shape you want around your eyes. Be creative!
Use the black cream to color the shape in and then set with the black eye shadow.
Use red to create a noes and apply to your lips to create that signature clown smile.

The wounds:
This is totally optional but if you want to create wounds along side your mouth (or anywhere else) just follow these steps:
Apply a layer of liquid latex in the area you want the wound (I found mine at Party City.)
Tear strips of tissue paper (no straight edges- the more jagged the better) and place on top of the latex. Apply another layer of latex on top of the paper.
Let it dry. Once dry set it with powder to prevent it from sticking to itself.
Use tweezers to pick open parts of the tissue to create an open wound.
Paint the inside of the tears with black and red to give the appearance of a deep wound.
Add blood and voila!

If you recreate this look send me pics! I'd love to see it.

Stay spooky,

The looks she creates are all wearable and achievable and of course, in the words of Jaclyn you have to “blend, blend, and BLEND!” Also, you know you’re a fan of Jaclyn when you describe your shadows as “buttery.”
