Now, for those that know me know that I am all about strong female characters. My life pretty much revolves around them, they inspire me, motivate me, and they’ve all had a hand in molding me to be the woman I am today. These women have attitude, confidence and a killer wardrobe. Each character is more different than the last, which definitely explains my ever-changing style and interests.

While my life is full of female characters that have influenced me, these five women started it all. I religiously watched their movies and shows, I modeled my personality and style after them, and they continue to be some of my favorite ladies.

From a pink-loving sorority girl turned law student, to a combat boot wearing outcast that loved pizza and watching Sick Sad World.

So here are my top five women in movies/TV:

Cher Horowitz (Clueless)

Clueless was one of those films that truly shaped who I was. As a kid I admired Cher, her ability to talk her way out of almost anything, her confidence, her style and her ah-mazing revolving closet- like are you kidding me? Who watched that film and didn’t want her closet?

Cher loved a good challenge and was never afraid to speak up for what she believed in, whether it was regarding her choice of keeping her virginity until she met the right person, or on why she needed to donate her skis to the Pismo Beach Disaster Relief.

She was also never afraid to discuss her distaste for men her own age, because girl SAME! I also have Cher to thank for my love of Paul Rudd because as she realized that she loved Josh, I too realized that I loved Josh- literally my MCM every day. Cher influenced me as a kid and continues to do so- she’s also the reason I use the phrase “as if” in daily conversation.

Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family)

My love for all things creepy started when I was young. From my obsession with horror movies and creepy TV shows, I was all about that life. While other girls idolized their Disney princesses I wanted to be Wednesday Addams. Don’t get me wrong, I love Disney as much as the next person, but none of them truly captured my love for macabre quite like Wednesday (unless we’re talking about the early tales that inspired the Disney films- some of those were truly dark).

Wednesday inspired me to embrace my weirdness and own it, even if others found it or my interests a little unsettling. I can’t tell you how many times I have to hear “why do you like horror films so much? They’re disgusting!” or “why do you read about serial killers?” Blah, blah, blah- it’s exhausting.

Wednesday is fiercely herself and isn’t afraid to let others know and it inspired me to stop hiding my interests and who I am for the sake of others. Also, Wednesday and her mother Morticia’s style is iconic and has definitely influenced many of my looks. Black is such a happy color.

Courtney Shayne (Jawbreaker)

Y’all don’t even know how much I idolized this chick when I was growing up. Courtney was fierce, confident, witty, and ruled with an iron fist. Thanks to Courtney and the film Jawbreaker, I’ve always had a dream of having a slow-mo scene where I walk down a hallway while Yoo Hoo by The Imperials plays in the background.

Courtney is the reason I’m so obsessed with bold, red lipstick and she’s kind of where I adopted my bitchiness. I aspired to be her, she was the top bitch and could strike fear into the hearts of many and do it in style. Looking gorgeous and terrifying is the aesthetic I so love.

I don’t know why I’m always drawn to the bitchy main characters in films but, it started with my love for Courtney.

Daria Morgendorffer (Daria)

Daria is literally me, from her resting bitch face to her no-nonsense personality. Aside from my main chick Angelica Pickles (who deserves a post just to herself), Daria was one of the only animated characters that had a huge impact on my life. Daria was a sarcastic little shit with a realist, and often cynical, view of the world. She speaks her mind it comes off as so sarcastic that others don’t realize she’s throwing an intense amount of shade at them.

Daria was the reason I became so obsessed with combat boots and skirts and one of the reasons I’m too sarcastic for my own good.

Elle Woods (Legally Blonde)

As if I could have a list about women that inspired me and NOT mention Elle Woods- I would be lying to myself.

As a kid, watching this movie was a huge deal. Elle Woods was a bubbly, girly, sorority girl who defied all odds and graduated from Harvard Law despite those that thought she couldn’t. I was a fourth grader who wore a lot of pink that was too nice to everyone and let others tell me who I could be. Seeing Elle believe in herself and working her ass off to reach her goals inspired me and continues to inspire me. Everyone needs that “Elle Woods ‘I don’t need men, I’m gonna kick ass in Law School’” kind of motivation. As a sorority woman, I know too well of how we’re stereotyped and looked at as girly-girls that only care about looks and we’re severely underestimated. It’s one of the reasons I go above and beyond to prove others wrong.

Elle Woods inspired me to always have faith in myself, stand up for my beliefs, and never sacrifice who I am in order to be successful. Elle also inspired me to speak out against fuckboys that think that they’re hot shit. #StopFuckboys2k15

Though I have many favorite female characters, these five will always hold a special place in my heart. What are some female characters that inspire you?

Till next time,

Over the past two months I was able to try out many new products and rediscover some old faves as well. April was hectic with the production of The Rocky Horror Show happening but it gave me an excuse to buy more beauty products.

So without further adieu, let’s get started.

Beauty:

Eyes/Brows:

Urban Decay Naked 3- Pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before but this has been my go-to pallet for the past two months. The blush toned neutrals are perfect for everyday wear and when I want to darken it up for a night look.

Maybelline MasterPrecise Liquid Liner pen- This is my favorite drugstore liner pen. It’s nice and sharp to help achieve a precise winged look which is nice because I almost always do winged liner.

NYX Cake Brow Powder in Medium- For when I want a more natural brow look, this is my go-to. It’s fine enough that it fills in my brows without causing them to look too dark which is easy to do when you have dark brows -perfect for brunettes and those with black hair.

Make Up For Ever SmokyExtravagant Mascara- This lengthens my lashes and gives them so much volume! I would use this to prep my lashes for falsies which I had to wear for Rocky Horror.

Kiss i-Envy Lashes +glue- Speaking of lashes, the i-Envy line from Kiss has amazing lashes. It’s premium human hair and they have lashes that range from natural to more dramatic. I not only wore these for the show but I wore them on nights out too.

Milani Gel PowderEyeshadow in Bella Gold- These gel eyeshadows are super pigmented and add the right amount of glam to your look. You can use them wet or dry to add intensity.

Face:

Covergirl LooseTranslucent Power- This powder is seriously amazing. It sets your makeup without making it look cakey and helps with oil control.

Loreal Infallible 24hr MatteFoundation in Sun Beige- Now, I usually don’t wear foundation but I needed it for the show. This foundation is worth all the hype. It dries to a demi-matte finish and it looks natural on the skin. It held up during our double feature and I had it on from 4 p.m. to at least 2 a.m. That includes dancing non-stop and being under bright stage lights. I apply it with my beauty blender to help sheer it out.

NYX Matte SettingSpray- Amazing. It helped my makeup stay on flawlessly and it actually keeps your face matte. Your makeup stays in place all day.

Elf ContouringBlush/Bronzer duo in St. Lucia- This came in handy during the show. It’s pigmented and blends out easily. The blush had a hint of shimmer, helping add some highlight to my cheeks.

Contour + Highlighting Kit- I lucked up and found this contour kit while at Ross. Super random but the powders are quite pigmented and easy to blend.

Maybelline Hi-Light Blush in Nude- One of my all-time faves. The colors blend together to create a rose gold shimmer and it looks amazing, especially in the light. It’s comparable to Mac’s Soft n Gentle.

Lips:
Swatches from L-R: Touch of Spice, Cherry Bomb, Pink Soufflé, Blushing

Sephora Cream LipStain in Pink Soufflé - These things do not budge on your lips. They dry matte and aren’t drying.

Maybelline CreamyMatte Lipstick in Touch of Spice- I wore this almost every other day. It’s a creamy matte so it’s not drying and feels comfortable on your lips. It’s a dark nude with a hint of pink, comparable to Mac’s Velvet Teddy.

Wet n Wild MatteLipstick in Cherry Bomb- I love a good dark red lip and this was my go-to during Rocky.

LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Blushing- I love a good blush toned nude and this was no exception. I normally don’t wear glosses but the formula isn’t sticky or overly glossy so it feels nice. Comparable to Too Faced Liquid Lipsticks.

Fashion:
Tropical romper fromCato’s- I was skeptical about trying a romper because I didn’t know how it would look on me but I instantly fell In love with this! It has a nice fit and it’s so comfy. Plus, I love green and black. I’m on the romper bandwagon now.

Black lace shortsfrom Forever 21- So comfy! I wanted some shorts that were more comfortable than jean shorts and these are flowy but still have a nice shape.

Black V cutout tankfrom Target- I love tanks like this because it’s so easy to dress them up or down. It’s flattering and perfect for the summer.

Blue + Silver Sandals from Palm Beach- I wear this style sandal all the time. They literally go with anything.

Movies:

The Avengers: Age of Ultron- Are you kidding me? As if I could have a favorites list and NOT mention the Avengers. The film was absolutely amazing, I loved the introduction of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch into the MCU, I immediately fell in love with their characters. The only issues were: the unnecessary love story between Nat and Banner and the fact that Linda is Clint’s wife and not me.

Pitch Perfect 2- It was Aca-Amazing. Duh. The more I watch this and the first film, the more I realize that I’m Aubrey.

Music:

Fifth Harmony “Worth It”- I can’t control myself when this song comes on.

Nicky Minaj ft. Beyonce “Feeling Myself”- I feel beyond fierce when I hear this.

Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar “Bad Blood” remix- As if I wouldn’t include this. That video gave me so much life.

Alright, that’s it for my current favorites. Let me know what you’ve been loving recently!

Hey everyone!

January was full of amazing new things for me; it’s also my birthday month! I turned 22 this month and yes, I blasted 22 by Taylor Swift all day.
I had quite a few favorite things for this month so let’s get started!

Beauty:
Urban Decay Naked 3- I got this for Christmas and I can’t stop using it. I love all of the blush tones and rose gold colors, it’s absolutely beautiful!

Nars Velvet Mattelipstick in Cruella- Anyone that knows me knows that I’m obsessed with red lips, especially matte red lips. This lipstick comes in a crayon stick and it’s quickly become a part of my beauty staples. It wears very comfortably.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita- This is the perfect mauve-y nude lipstick! It goes on smooth and dries to a matte finish. It’s not uncomfortable to wear and it’s long-lasting. The name itself had me sold.

Anastasia Brow Wiz- This is worth all the hype. I don’t know why it took me so long to pick this up but I haven’t put it down since. It’s a quick way to fill in your brows and keep them neat all day. The pencil is thin so it helps to create hair-like strokes for that natural look.

Urban Decay PrimerPotion- I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to get this primer, it’s absolutely amazing! It goes on so smooth and makes my shadows look vibrant and stays all day- even through cheerleading and zumba!

Cake Batter Chapstick- Y’all…this smells so good! I always keep lip balm on me, especially with how cold and dry it is currently. The cake batter balm makes your lips smooth and seriously, the smell is amazing. Go get some!

Taylor by TaylorSwift- This perfume has become my signature scent. It’s slightly floral and sweet, but it’s not too sweet. It has the perfect blend of musk and sweetness.

Fashion:
“Bow Hard for GoHome” tank from Kiss My Southern Sass- This is one of the most comfortable shirts I own aside from my sorority tees. I wear it all the time whether I’m lounging around, going to class-whatever. KMSS has comfy, oversized tanks and those are my favorite things to wear. If you want to get your own use code “MikaylaAnderson” for a discount.

Music:
Taylor Swift 1989- The entire album is my favorite because I listen to it almost every day. It’s not even an issue.

Sia- Elastic Heart- This song is so beautiful, it has a great beat and the video is interesting to say the least.

Lorde- Yellow Flicker Beat- I listen to this every single day. I first heard this song when I heard the The Hunger GamesMockingjay soundtrack and I’ve been obsessed ever since. This song makes me feel like I’m a warrior princess and I can start a rebellion.

Movies:
Into the Woods- OH MY GOD. This was everything I could have imagined. I wanted to see this because the play itself hold a place in my heart because my first leading role was in a production of Into the Woods as the Baker’s Wife so I knew I had to see this. The cast was spectacular and the music…let’s just say I sang along to every single song. I have no regrets.

American Sniper- This is a recent favorite, I saw this last weekend with my parents and literally bawled my eyes out. Such an amazing film, Bradley Cooper never disappoints. It's a must-see film.

Okay guys, those were all the things I loved for the month of January. What were some of your favorites?
